Katy Orr RCST - Craniosacral Therapist
"Few of us have lost our minds but most of us have long ago lost our bodies" - Ken Wilbur
What is Craniosacral therapy?
Biodynamical Craniosacral Therapy could be described as “listening hands”. Where hands are used to listen to the body in very much the same way as a counsellor might listen to words. The body will then respond to this sensitive touch by beginning to listen to itself, enabling it to start the process of self-healing that is inherent within everyone.
It is a ‘light touch’ on the body, where the therapist through years of training and experience is led by your body to place her hands gently on areas that need support in releasing tensions and traumas to the tissues, muscles and even at a cellular level. The light contact may be taken up anywhere between the Cranium (head) and the Sacrum (tail bone) or any other part of the body as appropriate.
During the session you will probably start to slow down, I mean really slow down. This helps us match some of the body’s most important rhythms. When we slow down our body literally becomes juicier, a 20-30% increase in Cerebrospinal fluid occurs bathing our important nervous system so it can rebalance more efficiently. We start to let go of our muscles not just in our arms and legs but the muscles that are deep inside our body and pulling on our organs. The body gently unwinds. We begin to feel more ‘whole’ again. Pain reduces, stress melts and tension dissipates. The health in your body is boosted. It is so gentle and in tune with you body and its systems that many people use the therapy as a complementary treatment to more conventional treatments given by the Doctor.
Over several sessions you can feel physically and emotionally better. More connected to yourself; more at ease with the world.
